Name: Guy Denzrita
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Race: Deku Scrub
Guild: N/A
Occupation: Chemist - Creates acids, medicines and other chemical mixtures for use in and out of battle.
Sub-Occupation: Bandit - Specialist who steals through force (not that he steals very often, but when he does, you'll know it).
Potions: All potions are stored in small, corked vials, about the size of an average man's finger. Denzrita must create these before using them, so he has a limited supply, and only carries 12 vials at once.
- Flare - When the vial breaks upon a hard surface, a flaming burst of energy will emit. Equivalent in power to an average bomb, but has more emphasis on fire than force. This can be mixed easily compared to his other potions, to the point where Guy can efficiently mix it in ten-or-twenty seconds in the midst of a battle, if he has the materials. If handled carefully, a little bit of this liquid can effectively be applied to arrowtips, creating miniature Flares upon impact.
- Knock Out - A few minutes after being mixed, this liquid will turn into a gas. This gas will knock out anyone who inhales it, but the slumber is rather light. There's only little smoke stored in the vial, so it has to be used carefully if it is to be effective.
- Mushroom - As its name suggests, this is mixture made from mushrooms. Drinking it will cause the drinker to enter a supernatural state, creating what one would assume are illusions and unknown phenomena which "blow your mind". Although getting high seems to be the primary use of this potion, it grants unrivaled insight into yourself and your surroundings, as well as seemingly random clairvoyance. A sip only lasts a minute or so, but the entire vial will last up to an hour.
- Swap - Combination of a blue and pink potion; this is the only potion Denzrita invented himself. If two people drink the blue potion, their souls and minds will swap bodies (physical appearance, voices, spells, and the like will stay with the body). This effect will not cancel until one of the two affected drinks the pink potion.
- Keese - Whoever drinks this will transform into a Keese within seconds, though they will turn back to normal within a matter of minutes. Clear speech is impossible in this state, but flight, small size, and superhuman hearing become available. Of course, killing a Keese is easy... so it can be dangerous to use. Shaking the vial's contents rapidly before use will instead create the Fairy potion; speed and speech sacrifices stealth and sonar.
- Magnetic Greed - Not a potion, but the result of drinking a potion his father brewed a decade ago. With an extension of his hand, all Rupees in the general direction will be strongly (or weakly, depending on the force put into the gesture) pulled towards Guy's palm. Since Rupees can be quite sharp, this could potentially inflict a slight amount of damage to anything separating Denzrita's palm from the rupee(s).
Physical Appearance:
Denzrita seems to be more of a Mad Scrub than a Deku Scrub, judging from his color, but he does possess limbs and a decent height more common to Deku Scrubs. These traits sprang from his parents; his mother was a Deku and his father a half-Deku and half-Mad Scrub. His wooden bark tone is a light with a slight yellow tint, and noticeably smoother to the touch when compared with most Dekus. His hair is purely of the Mad variety; mostly orange with a little yellow at the base and more red around the tips, leaves falling a little past his shoulders; wild-looking from any angle.
Most Dekus seem to have their face frozen for most of their life, and Denzrita is no exception. His eyes are glowing orange, as is the common, but they form perfectly round circles instead of angled sad or angry eyes. Sometimes he likes it because he thinks it's cute, but other times despises it because they make him look "clueless". He'll usually fix this problem by adjusting his hair to cut off part of the eyes, effectively making them angry, happy, sad, etc... but unfortunately, this can usually only be achieved when he's fairly still, as the leaves on his head don't like to remain motionless. You could say his perfectly round head compliments his circular eyes. Large, dark red leaves grow on his short legs, effectively making it look like he's wearing some sort of pants... or a dress... or something.
Denzrita is decently fit, though it's difficult to tell as Deku Scrubs don't have muscles in the traditional sense, but he does appear to be thin, and has little trouble matching most Hylians in terms of strength, but stamina is easily his best physical attribute. Still, he makes up for his natural disadvantage as a warrior with a Halberd--its length and design provides a little more range punch than most weapons, though it sacrifices speed.
Attire:
His leaf-pants and armor aside, Denzrita doesn't wear much. Although its mostly just for show, he wears a cape black on the inside and red on the outside, which clips to his shoulder-guards. It's arranged so he can easily remove it without dropping the guards, flip sides, or even take it off completely and use it as a blanket or scarf. He occasionally likes to drop his arms and let the cape fall in front, covering his entire body; he thinks it makes him look like a "mysterious villain". He doesn't wear a shirt or any form of footwear, but that's quite common of his race.
Despite a lack of real "pants" Denzrita wears a belt primarily fitted with slots to hold vials for his potions, as well as pouches used to hold various chemical materials, scrap paper used for note-taking, flint, a handful of rations, and miscellaneous items in need of carrying.
Weapons:
A Halberd nearly twice his height serves as Denzrita's main weapon. It's tip comes in the form of a combination of a spear and axe, made to be both functional and powerful. While it's most effectively used for slashing, thrusting will also work. The opposite end is a pointed spear, but since this end usually drags on the ground, its point is quite dull and rather ineffective at piercing compared to the other tip or a specialized lance. The pole itself is made of an unknown wood coated with 1cm of sturdy black metal for rigidity. The weapon itself is quite hard to hold anywhere other than in his hand, but Guy does have a make-do sheath on his back capable of holding the weapon at a mostly horizontal angle. The Halberd blocks his cape while sheathed, so it can look a little awkward, but it's all he has; the occasional person believes they would be attacked when Denzrita came to them weapon in-hand.
He carries a set of twelve vials, seven of which are formed with rubber so they don't break easily; the other five glass vials are used to store Flares. Under normal circumstances, the five are filled with Flare, two with Knock Out, two with Keese, one with Mushroom, and two with the Swap combination. Six fit on each side of his belt. Some of these vials were from his childhood, while others were store-bought. The less-valuable ones are generally used for Flare, since the vial's going to break anyway.
A sturdy metal claw on his right hand generally serves as a last-resort weapon if someone passes through his Halberd's reach when he least expects it. With a flick of his wrist, three sturdy and sharp, two-inch claws will extend from between his knuckles underneath the armored gauntlet guarding his hand. Though it's the least important of his weapons, he's had it the longest; it was originally owned by his father, who in turn received it from his father. The true origin of the weapon is a mystery to Denzrita, but he assumes it more important than a family heirloom, judging from the small Ruby engraved on its palm.
Armour:
Although Guy would favor a shield, his Halberd generally takes up both hands (but it can effectively block most melee weapons). Instead, the metallic gauntlet mentioned in "Weapons" doubles as an arm-brace. This piece of shining metal covers his hand, forearm, and upper arm, serving as his only "real" armor. It's about one-and-a-half the width of his upper arm at its widest point, so it works better for blocking projectiles than anything else he has.
He wears a couple black-painted metal shoulder guards, but these are mainly used to support his cape, and don't offer much protection when he needs it. They're... surprisingly... shiny, despite being coated black.
While his left hand remains free, he does have an armguard on this forearm matching the one on his right . It was not in a set with the gauntlet, and is a little over-sized.
Interests / Likes: Chemistry and chemicals, Fire (foolish as it is), Math, Logic, Deceiving the deceitful
Dislikes: Impatience, socially awkward (said by some), overly-independent and too much of a loner
Fears: Drowning and large reservoirs (what would you expect from a Deku?), imprisonment or bondage, Flares igniting on his belt (even though he does like fire, that's a bit much)
Skills:- Stamina - Resulting from, but often wasted on his jittery and energetic motions.
- Jumping - Also obtained from his energy, Guy has an amazing proficiency for both long and high jumping despite his Deku Scrub size. The fact that he'll use his Halberd to pole-vault can boost his leaping prowess even further.
- Processing Speed and Quick-Thinking. This is just a natural ability he's always had, and probably couldn't imagine living without.
- Knowledge of chemistry, chemicals, and how elemental compounds function. Mostly learned from his father and some independent study.
Overall Personality: Most obviously, Guy is easily excited, and loves to rush head-on into conflict without looking back. He's nearly always filled with energy, obvious to anyone who's seen him: he always runs, never walks, and has a (supposedly) bad habit of shouting or talking in a loud, abrupt manner. His hands often twitch in rhythm with his breaths, more often than not making him appear stressed or anxious (one or the other is usually true anyway). But the more you get to know him, the more it seems like he's just trying to keep up with a rapid-yet-steady pace you can't see. He seems to find a beat in every sound he hears, whether it be steady as footsteps, or familiar as the crackle-boom-fwoosh of his Flares (he has a habit of making a different victory pose on each of the four sounds).
Though he's always about moving faster and getting things going, that doesn't mean he's incapable of slowing down a (brief) minute to think. One of his most prominent abilities is an intense processing speed of thought, which seems to never slow down (partially due to his relentless energy). He's always dashing through his own mind at breakneck speeds, though often not at the subject at hand, which likely influences why he's always jittery in the first place.
It might not seem to be in his personality, but Guy likes rushing through math problems and logical puzzles, more often doing them as fast as possible than getting them 100% correct. He's also quite adept at memorizing written facts, but not faces, fiction, or opinions. This is part of the reason he's been able to keep up with his father's study of potions and chemistry.
Guy's comparatively uncreative, and tends to only think outside the box when being random or when his survival calls upon it. He rushes too much to enjoy "the arts", and generally isn't too tolerant of people who waste a large portion of their time doing so. Even so, he generally doesn't care enough to straight-out debunk their way of life. Even if he doesn't like someone, he'll act nice if they are, but generally believes in the philosophy, "an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth, even if you have to rip that tooth out of 'im yourself".
Family: Guy's older brother, Doriphan Denzrita, fled the swamp at age 14 (when Guy was 9), claiming he would become a Pirate and return one day to burn down the entire region just out of malice. He was pretty determined about it, was always serious, and had become an accomplished warrior at an early age, so people were threatened... at first. It was twelve years, and Doriphan came back to apologize recently, and became the area's only Deku Scrub blacksmith. Guy himself has yet to return, so for all he knows his older sibling is off pillaging some poor settlement and raping all its women.
His mother, Shiren Deznrita, was usually quite busy with political matters and business affairs, as she was Deku Palace's representative in Clock Town congressional hearings. Guy really doesn't know much about her, and they were never very close... but they did all the things mothers and sons were supposed to do, more or less.
Guy's father died naturally of old age five years ago, when Guy was 17, as he was rearing around sixty in Deku years when his second son was born. All of Guy's Chemical knowledge up until that point was passed down from Gasson, his wise father. After a few weeks of mourning, the youngest of the family abruptly decided to broaden his horizons and learn further the ways of Chemistry, or at least that's what he implied in the note; he left the village with little more than a word, as no one form his family was around at the time. "Banditeering" was just something he picked up along the way, though he had a natural adaptation for it, and it has since become his trademark.
Home: Southern Swamp
History: (I covered significance with family... and after writing all that other stuff, I've lost most ability to be "artsy".)
Most of Guy's life was pretty average for a kid living near Deku Palace. He learned most of what he needed to know through his father, and the rest from his older brother and his own experiences. An average day of what he remembers of childhood involved working with his Chemist father, playing with the others, and running errands (or more accurately, entertaining the servants with his characteristic antics) in the Palace for extra rupees his father could use for research.
Nothing too interesting or special happened often. Sure, there were the occasional monster raids where Gasson went out to aid the Palace's soldiers with his potions, or the "big meetings" Shiren went to, but it was pretty boring. That's why Doriphan left in the first place... It's mostly the reason Guy left too, when he was 17.
Since then, Guy's been searching for adventure; any other anxious boy like him stuck in a quiet village all his life would be dying to. But of course, adventure doesn't just sit on the street holding up a sign. Although he savors the quests he's seen, defeating monsters, saving innocents, learning new potions and gaining powerful chemical compounds, he's more often than not just some guy trying to make end's meet. For a while, this just involved scavenging for materials to make sellable potions with... staying at various inns where he sold mixtures until the market ran dry, then moved on.
That is, until he ran into a Goron bandit--a particularly foolish bandit who confused a soul-swapping potion stolen from sleeping Guy with a Life-restoring blue potion. Although Guy wasn't a wimp at the time, the Bandit's body far surpassed his own if it came down to a justifiable fight. Both were freaked out, but the attacker much more so than his would-be victim. In exchange for a few lessons on the way of the Bandit, Guy said he would tell the Goron how to return to normal. After all, he had no idea which of the eleven other potions did what, if the one he thought would heal him swapped their bodies.
After a quick tutor session, Guy designated the pink potion as the one he should take, but made sure to notify him to take one of the red ones right after they switched or it wouldn't stick. Their souls back in their proper places, the Goron snatched one of the Chemist's flares and quickly ingested it, mocking him in laughter as he raised the Halberd, "Moron, what made you think I was going to let you get away with that?"
Guy laughed, his hand gently switching with each rhythm, "This." The Bandit's eyes bulged and crawled over with red veins as he was burned from the inside out, a low moan of excruciating pain serving as the final message. The little Scrub struck a cheesy victory pose and shouted something about morons and Gorons.
Guy smirked as he easily won the bandit's treasures, weapon, and left-equipped armguard. Equipping the martials and posing like a warrior, he danced and ran out of the forest, waking up the entire region with his shouts of victory. Three years have passed since this incident. |
